This is a locked facility for adolescents 12-18 who have been psychiatrically hospitalized and require the States highest level of care (level 14). Many aspects are good, especially the youth counselors, who are very caring, kind, and supportive to the youth even when the youth must be physically restrained for safety reasons. Also good are the food (healthy), exercise (daily cardio), and school, which focuses on positive reinforcement to engage youth and supports IEPs. Nursing and medical are adequate but not individualized: if someone comes in w a specific need (e.g., STD monitoring), you must remind them for several weeks before they follow through. Skills groups are low level. They teach hygiene, cooking, basic life skills, not social skills or coping skills. Psychotherapy is 30 min twice a week and quality is inconsistent w trainees, not licensed therapists. No one teaches coping skills or strategies explicitly. A good place if your teen *needs* lock up and 24/7 supervision due to self harm behavior. Not a good place for therapy. They do not provide adequate family therapy or involve families in the youth’s treatment plan.
